South Mull land management plan
South Mull land management plan
The plan for South Mull covers Garmony and Ishriff Forests. Garmony is conspicuous from ferry routes and both forests from the A849 which passes through them. It forms the backdrop to Craignure. Garmony also contains a number of recreation facilities; important given the island is a tourist destination, with ferry terminals at Craignure and Fishnish, and tourist facilities throughout the area. Ishriff is situated within the more dramatic mountainous part of the island. It is a more recent plantation with variable growth. It contains part of the Allt Molach SSSI, noted for its geological ring dykes.
The primary objectives for the plan area are; commercial conifer timber production, followed by PAWS restoration (Garmony), and landscape enhancement. Certification under the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme is another important objective and compliance with the UKFS.
