Lussa Forest lies six miles north of Campbeltown at the southern end of the Kintyre Peninsula. The Land Management Plan (LMP) area comprises a landscape scale unit of 7,999 hectares stretching from the west side of Kintyre across to the east encompassing the water catchment area of Lussa Loch. While Sitka Spruce is the dominant productive species due to site constraints, opportunities do exist to diversify both the species and the age structure. The forest has a good road network which has enabled restructuring to be carried out across most of the mature forest, large areas of which have been significantly windblown.

The primary objectives for the LMP area are: commercial conifer timber production;, renewable energy (both wind & hydro); landscape re-appraisal in association with restructuring; review of the current management taking into account guidance on forest resilience and diversification in relation to climate change. Certification is another important objective to which the plan will contribute.
