Glenbuck LMP
Glenbuck LMP
The Glenbuck Land Management Plan (LMP) covers the establishment of a new woodland on remediated former mining ground and the restructuring of existing woodland on a site totalling 686ha in size. The site is situated to the north of the A70 and is approximately 4 km north-east of the village of Muirkirk in East Ayrshire. The former opencast coal mining site has a long history of mineral extraction dating back to 1795.
Ongoing mechanical remediation of former mining ground is being undertaken by a third party on behalf of FLS to create soils fit for the establishment and long-term growth of a new woodland. The neighbouring Glenbuck Heritage Village, ironworks and the Muirkirk and North Lowther SPA have been key factors that have influenced the woodland design along with other social and environmental considerations.
This LMP was approved by Scottish Forestry in February 2023.
