The East Regions Planning and Programming team collaborate with other functions and specialists to design the forests of the future, protect and restore semi-natural habitats, respond to climate change and enhance our landscapes. Our GIS Technicians maintain and enhance our database while providing essential GIS support to a range of colleagues.
Working alongside other GIS technicians, this role contributes to improving our data, systems and ensuring accurate spatial planning. The postholder will collaborate closely with the Programme Manager, delivering critical insights to support the development of timber harvesting, woodland creation , civil engineering, environmental, and survey programmes.

As Commercial Development Assistant, you will provide executive and administrative support to the Director of Commercial Development and the Directorate’s Leadership Team. Our Foresters are responsible for planning and managing programmes of work for their team such as planting, harvesting maintaining forests. The teams also manage habitats and visitor attractions whilst ensuring efficient timber supply to customers.
To be successful in this role you will have experience in forestry or related land management work and leading people.

Forestry and Land Scotland’s East Region manages approximately 93,000 hectares of public land—from the coastal pinewoods of Moray and Fife through Aberdeenshire to Perthshire—encompassing iconic sites such as Tay Forest Park and key open habitats including blanket bog and native woodlands.
In this role, you’ll work primarily on-site, supporting the team and contractors in operations while handling contract management and providing mapping and planning updates. Your focus will be ensuring compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and UKWAS standards, meeting customer and stakeholder needs, and delivering key climate and biodiversity objectives.

These posts of Regional Environment Advisor (REA) are based in either South Region (from the Scottish Borders to the Island of Arran) or Central Region (from the Cowal Peninsula to Fife), both extremely diverse areas with many habitat types including Atlantic Rainforest, commercial conifer forest, peatlands, ancient woodlands, open hill ground and restored former open-cast coal mining sites.
The REA is a key leadership role and integral part of the planning and environment team in the region. At its core, the role is responsible for providing environmental expertise and advice to the regional team to inform land management planning and programming of future works on the National Forests and Land. It is interesting and challenging work which balances facilitation of the regional core work programmes whilst seeking opportunities to positively contribute to the climate change/biodiversity crisis and manage the estate for optimal environmental benefit. The role also includes working with others to identify external funding and partnership working opportunities to develop a portfolio of ‘shovel-ready’ environment projects.
