Latest forest information
- Forestry work is currently taking place at the Carrot entrance (accessed from near Eaglesham). Please take care and follow all safety signage.
- There is felling in the West of Whitelee between Darvel Moss and Todhills Moss. There will be no forest road closures, but Banksmen will be on site to facilitate access through the felling area. Please follow banksmen instructions and all safety signage.

About
Explore the forest around Britain's largest onshore windfarm
A mature forest and home to Britain's largest onshore windfarm, Whitelee covers a vast area that's perfect to explore on bike and horse, as well as on foot. There are a mix of wide gravel forest roads and narrow earth paths, many of which offer superb views across Glasgow.
East Renfrewshire Council have created a series of downloadable maps and guides of the forest and its trails.
Activities
Explore by bike or horse
The size of Whitelee forest means it’s a great place to explore by bike or horse. From Ardochrig there are number of routes that are mainly flat, with few slopes. Head south to get straight into the forest, or north to discover a wetland area where dragonflies dart over the water in summer.
Whitelee Windfarm visitor centre
The visitor centre at Whitelee windfarm has interactive displays, a café, a shop and a waymarked trail to a viewpoint from where you can see Ben Lomond, Ailsa Craig and Arran.
Whitelee ranger service
The Whitelee ranger service run lots of exciting events and activities throughout the year, come along and learn more about the windfarm and the environment around it.
Facilities and access
You’ll find a café and toilets at the Whitelee windfarm visitor centre. There are shops and places to eat in Strathaven and East Kilbride.
Car parking information
There is no charge to park in this car park. Please park with care and consideration. In particular please park in designated parking areas only and do not block entrances or gates.
Getting here
The main entrance and small car park for Whitelee Forest is shared with the entrance to Whitelee Windfarm on the west side of the Ardochrig Road. If you don't spot our sign, you'll certainly spot the large green Scottish Renewables sign!
