Direct Property Sales
Direct Property Sales
We’ll deal with all requests in a fair and reasonable way. We’ll only progress cases that improve the management of our forests and land. We’ll also consider cases where there is a strong case for action in line with Scottish Government guidance. Scottish ministers issue the Scottish Public Finance Manual. It offers guidance on the proper use and reporting of public funds. It also sets out relevant legal and administration requirements. These emphasise the need for economy, efficiency and effectiveness. This promotes good practice and high standards.
We will only consider sale by private treaty in special cases. We don't normally negotiate sales directly.
We’re likely to progress cases that fall into the categories below:
- property sales to the sitting tenant
- sales that benefit the public, such as road widening
- legal or other limits that prevent open market sale
- title rectification, working alongside neighbours and Registers of Scotland
If many parties want to buy a property, and we’re willing to sell, we'll place the property on the open market.
We recently registered the National Forests and Land (NFL) with Registers of Scotland. You should research the legal expectations before asking to buy or sell land. You can use the Registers of Scotland search facility.
Get in touch with local Area Land Agent (Local Contacts) by email or writing if you have any questions or requests. You should include all relevant information, maps and photos. They will then confirm whether the land is ours and if we will take the request forward.
If your proposal lines up with current guidance for direct sale, we will get in touch with more details.
