Glen Shira land management plan
Glen Shira land management plan
The plan for Glen Shira was approved by Perth and Argyll Conservancy on 2August 2016. The plan expires on 2 August 2026.
Forest Commission Scotland sold most of Glen Shira Forest in 2012. A small part was retained, which contains half of the Glen Shira Woods SAC, a Western acidic oak wood with a rich assemblage of lichens and bryophytes. In addition, there is a native woodland expansion zone above the SAC, comprising previously felled areas for broadleaved regeneration and one stand of mature commercial conifers.
The primary objective for the plan area is the protection and enhancement of the SAC. This will include felling of the commercial conifers within the next 10 years. Certification under the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme is also required.
