Walk-and-talk to give insight into forest plans
Forestry and Land Scotland’s (FLS) team in Dumfries and Galloway are inviting local people to come along to a walk-and-talk tour (28th September) of the Torrs Warren woodland that lies close to Dunragit village.
The walk is part of the consultation on FLS’ 10 year land management plan for the forest (that also includes the nearby Dunragit and Drochduil woodlands) and aims both to encourage local people to take part in the consultation and to inform their feedback and comments.
Stephen Stables, FLS’ Planning Forester, who will lead the walk, said;
“The Torrs Warren plan comprises three blocks known as Torrs Warren, Drochduil and Dunragit that are uniquely important woodlands in a generally pastoral area.
“Improving the woods to encourage greater biodiversity is amongst the main goals for the plan and we’re also keen to maintain the levels of community involvement and promote the woodlands as a recreational resource that can help boost levels of public health and wellbeing.
“The walk is a great way to bring our plans to life and to give local people a much better appreciation of the many factors that are taken into consideration in woodland management.
“I’d encourage everyone with an interest to come along and to then take part in the consultation and let us know their views.”
Anyone who would like to take part can simply turn up at the Torrs Warren car park at 17.30hrs on 21 September 2023.
All the relevant documents and a feedback form are online but if, for any reason, anyone is unable to access the documents online, they can learn about what we are proposing by contacting the local team on 07881501586 or at enquiries.south@forestryandland.gov.scot or stephen.stables@forestryandland.gov.scot
