Glentress getting into gear
The café and bike shop at Glentress are to re-open for business this week after Forestry and Land Scotland pulled out all the stops to resurface the walkways around the buildings.
The announcement comes after the team carrying out the work solved some unplanned technical issues and that had initially threatened to delay the businesses opening to the public.
Both businesses will now be open – and offering a complete service – from 28 June
Laura-Anne Innes, FLS’ Recreation Visitor Services Project Manager for the South Region, said;
“This is great news for visitors and for the businesses as we put the finishing touches to this phase of the Masterplan development.
“The whole team has put in a phenomenal effort for months to deliver on the promise we made to have Glentress ready to accommodate the UCI event in August.
“The same focus and commitment went into completing the resurfacing work and that has enabled both businesses to reopen earlier than anticipated.
“The café and bike shop will be a focal point for visitors over the next few weeks and that will really add to the buzz around the place and the growing sense of anticipation.“
The boardwalk replacement was part of FLS’ £6 million investment in the Masterplan development programme that to-date has included 16km of new mountain bike trails and routes - such as a multi-user path, mountain biking taster trails, a new trailhead, new network trails and expanded infrastructure.
FLS will begin a phased hand-over of the site to the UCI team event organisers in mid-July so that they can begin their final preparations for the mountain bike cross-country and cross-country marathon events taking place from 6-12 August.
