Achnashellach Land Management Plan
Achnashellach Land Management Plan navigation
We recently completed (September 2026) the full revision of the Long Term Plan (LTP) for our forests and land around Achnashellach and Craig in Glen Carron, Wester Ross (see Map 1 below).
This draft LTP will be submitted to forestry regulator Scottish Forestry for consideration in early October. Once agreed, this Plan will become the new approved ten year plan – detailing how we intend to manage this landholding over the next ten years (2026 - 2036) and giving all necessary felling permissions to deliver these proposals.
Renaming Land Management Plans as Long Term Plans
Land Management Plans are in the process of becoming known as Long Term Plans, a change needed as a result of changes taking place in legislation.
The Land Reform Act introduces an alternative use for the term Land Management Plan which relates specifically to the forthcoming obligations set out under this banner. These terms are used interchangeably on our website, but both currently reference our plans developed in line with the UK Forestry Standard.
Plan objectives
The plan covers an area of approximately 1,517 hectares and seeks to address the following issues and longer-term management objectives as stated in the previous plan (2016 - 2026):
- Restoration of Caledonian pine and native broad-leaved woodland and open habitats across the Plan area over the next 40 years.
- Managing the land sympathetically to landscape character - optimising productive timber potential and return from the existing forest whilst maintaining visitor access and the local aesthetic.
- Reducing risks to people, public access and to vulnerable native habitats through sustainable forest and open ground planning and management.
Our goal is to ensure these forests and open ground are managed in as practical and effective a manner as possible for broad social, economic and environmental benefit.
The original Plan Brief document - produced at the outset of the recent revision process - is still available below for further context as well as all the maps and text documents that constitute the new draft Plan.
