Glen Prosen: exciting opportunities for communities and business
Glen Prosen: exciting opportunities for communities and business
We’re calling for ideas that will make the most of the buildings on the area of Glen Prosen that we now look after, situated within the Cairngorms National Park.
The buildings could host a range of opportunities for communities and businesses looking to be part of our wider programme of landscape scale habitat restoration and sustainable land management.
That’s why we want to hear from groups or individuals with innovative ventures that are environmentally sensitive and consistent with our overall approach to integrated land management and community wellbeing.
Thank you to everyone who has submitted an expression of interest. We are reviewing these and will be in touch in the new year. Further ideas are still welcome. Email our team for more information: angusglens@forestryandland.gov.scot
Potential opportunities
We have several properties ideal for ventures such as:
- community venues
- eco-tourism
- field centres for education
- walkers’ bothies
- forestry, conservation, or agricultural use
- office accommodation
We also have areas perfect for holiday pods or chalets available for commercial lease or third-party development.
Commercial
The large range of workshops offer an attractive location for a rural based company and the option to let one or all of the residential dwellings as part of the commercial lease, providing potential staff accommodation.
A purpose-built building, enclosing a large concrete central courtyard, was constructed in 2012 which provides a combination of vehicle and machinery storage, workshop space, staff kitchen and WC. With nine lockable units, the buildings provide considerable flexibility for future use.
There are existing foundations with planning consent which could be offered as part of a commercial lease and developed by the incoming business, potentially as office space or staff quarters.
