New farming opportunity opens in Glenprosen
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is seeking applications from aspiring and developing farmers for a new agricultural opportunity at Glenprosen in the Angus Glens.
The 70-hectare grazing tenancy forms part of FLS's and the Scottish Government’s commitment to supporting young farmers and those new to the industry by increasing access to publicly owned land.
In response to this commitment, during 2025-26, FLS offered and leased 17 sites, totalling 325 hectares, to new and recent entrants to farming, with holdings ranging from just over one hectare to 53 hectares.
FLS is currently assessing potential farming opportunities on land it manages and plans to bring identified sites forward early in 2027.
The initial five-year tenancy at Glenprosen includes grazing land and agricultural buildings and offers a unique opportunity to combine livestock farming with nature restoration and biodiversity enhancement.
The new tenant will work alongside an established conservation grazing operation, contributing to habitat restoration across Glenprosen.
Minister for Agriculture Jim Fairlie said:
"Farming plays a vital role in the future of our rural economy and the Scottish Government has made it a priority to create more opportunities for new entrants and developing farmers.
“I have been liaising closely with Forestry and Land Scotland as it looks to deliver on that commitment and this new tenancy is the latest example of how we can create pathways for new and aspiring farmers to develop their businesses, build skills and support the long-term resilience of the sector.
“It is an excellent chance for someone with livestock management skills to establish or grow a sustainable farming enterprise in the Angus Glens while making a valuable contribution to the local community.
“In addition, through sensitive grazing management, the successful tenant will also help deliver wider land management objectives, demonstrating how productive agriculture and environmental stewardship can work hand in hand.”
The tenancy is expected to begin in spring 2027, with the potential for an earlier start by agreement.

Background
Since the Scottish Government established the Farming Opportunities for New Entrants Scheme (FONE) in 2016, FLS has offered 136 farming opportunities to new entrants. In addition, FLS currently manages 225 existing agriculture agreements on Scotland’s national forests and land (covering 24,751 hectares), 53 of which are held by new entrants.
