Forest plan review for Aultmore
Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is inviting people from around the Forest of Aultmore area to come along to a drop in session to find out about and offer views on a long-term plan for the management of the forest.
The forest block in east Morayshire covers around 2415 hectares and lies between the port of Buckie and Keith.
The new plan is a normal part of FLS’ ten-year review of all land management plans to ensure that management options from now until 2036 continue to help meet FLS objectives.
FLS Forest Planner, Deborah Halliday, said:
“In the years to come, we will continue to manage this site for sustainable timber production through harvesting and restocking of commercial conifers.
“However, peatland restoration efforts – where appropriate – will also form part of the management activities going forward to maximise the area’s potential for carbon sequestration.
“We will also look to increase the number of broadleaf trees found in Aultmore. This will be achieved by planting riparian corridors and establishing broadleaved buffers around the peatland restoration areas.
“We’re looking to ensure there will be a balance of economic, environmental, and biodiversity priorities, so we’re really keen to hear comments and feedback on the plans from communities, businesses, neighbours and private individuals.”
The public consultation event will be held at Newmill Village Hall, near Keith on Wednesday 30 September between 1pm - 7pm. Members of the project team will be available throughout the event to discuss the final design proposal in more detail,
